General precautions
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
- Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
- Observe tightening torques.
- If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.
Valve timing procedures
- Removal/installation of timing chain requires:
- Turn crankshaft until camshaft timing mark at 6 o’clock position [1] .
- Ensure timing marks facing each other on centre line between crankshaft and camshaft [1] & [2] .
- During removal/installation of timing chain:
- Align dark coloured chain links with marks on sprockets [3] .
- To check chain movement:
- Prevent crankshaft rotation.
- Apply torque to camshaft sprocket in clockwise direction – 41 Nm (cylinder heads installed), or 20 Nm (cylinder heads removed).
- Hold ruler along edge of chain.
- Apply torque to camshaft sprocket in anti-clockwise direction – 41 Nm (cylinder heads installed), or 20 Nm (cylinder heads removed).
- Renew chain if link movement exceeds 3,2 mm.
- To ensure correct oil pump engagement during timing chain cover installation, remove crankshaft oil seal.
- Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to 54 Nm [4] .
