Special tools
- Exhaust camshaft alignment tool – Peugeot No.(-).0197-A1.
- Flywheel timing pin – Peugeot No.(-).0197-B.
- Inlet camshaft alignment tool – Peugeot No.(-).0197-A3.
General precautions
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
- Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
- Observe tightening torques.
- If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.
Valve timing procedures
- Insert flywheel timing pin [1] .
- Install exhaust camshaft alignment tool [2] .
- Install inlet camshaft alignment tool [3] .
- Timing correct when inlet camshaft alignment tool abuts cylinder head. Timing correct when exhaust camshaft alignment tool abuts cylinder head.
- If not, adjust camshafts as follows:
- Install exhaust camshaft alignment tool [2] .
- Install inlet camshaft alignment tool [3] .
- If camshaft alignment tools cannot be correctly fitted, hold camshafts with spanner on hexagon.
- Remove tensioner [4] .
NOTE: If chain tensioner is to be reused it must be drained of oil. Compress plunger slowly twice.
- Slacken bolt on each camshaft adjuster [5] .
- Align exhaust camshaft. Ensure exhaust camshaft alignment tool abuts cylinder head.
- Tighten exhaust camshaft alignment tool to cylinder head.
- Align inlet camshaft. Ensure inlet camshaft alignment tool abuts cylinder head.
- Tighten bolt on inlet camshaft alignment tool to cylinder head and exhaust camshaft alignment tool.
- Tighten bolt of each camshaft adjuster [5] . Tightening torque: 20±2 Nm + 180±5°.
- Remove flywheel timing pin [1] .
- Remove camshaft alignment tools [2] & [3] .
- Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise.
- Ensure flywheel timing pin and camshaft alignment tools can be refitted [1] , [2] & [3] .
- Timing correct when camshaft alignment tools abut cylinder head [2] & [3] .
