Special tools
- Camshaft alignment tool – No.T10414.
- Camshaft sprocket holding tool – No.T10172.
- Crankshaft pulley holding tool 1 – No.3415.
- Crankshaft pulley holding tool 2 – No.3415/2.
- Crankshaft timing pin – No.T10340.
General precautions
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
- Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
- Observe tightening torques.
- If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.
Valve timing procedures
Removal
- Removal/installation of timing chain requires:
- Sump removal.
- Remove blanking plug from cylinder block [1] .
- Install crankshaft timing pin [2] .
- Turn crankshaft slowly clockwise until it stops against timing pin.
- Remove hose connecting block from rear of cylinder head cover [3] .
- Ensure groove in rear of camshaft positioned as shown [4] .
- Install camshaft alignment tool [5] .
- Remove timing chain tensioner [6] .
- Remove camshaft sprocket bolt [7] . Hold camshaft sprocket with holding tool.
- Remove camshaft sprocket.
- Remove timing chain.
Installation
- Ensure crankshaft at TDC on No.1 cylinder.
- Ensure camshaft alignment tool correctly located [5] .
- Fit timing chain to crankshaft sprocket.
- Fit timing chain to camshaft sprocket.
- Install camshaft sprocket and chain as an assembly to camshaft. Finger tighten bolt [7] .
- Fit timing chain tensioner [6] .
- Tighten camshaft sprocket bolt [7] . Tightening torque: 50 Nm.
- Install crankshaft pulley.
- Install the used crankshaft pulley bolt and tighten to 50 Nm.
- Remove special tools [2] & [5] .
- Turn crankshaft 2 turns clockwise to TDC on No.1 cylinder.
- Ensure groove in rear of camshaft positioned as shown [4] .
- Install crankshaft timing pin [2] .
- Turn crankshaft slowly clockwise until it stops against timing pin.
- Ensure camshaft alignment tool can be fitted [5] . If not, repeat installation procedures.
- Remove special tools [2] & [5] .
- Remove crankshaft pulley.
- Tighten camshaft sprocket bolt a further 90° [7] .
NOTE: All bolts with an angular torque setting MUST be replaced.
