Special tools
- Flywheel locking tool (starter motor aperture) – No.09231-2A100/2A110.
- Sump separator – No.09215-3C000.
Special precautions
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- Remove glow plugs to ease turning engine.
- Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
- Observe tightening torques.
- If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.
Valve timing procedures
- Removal/installation of timing chain requires:
- Sump removal.
- Ensure engine at TDC on No.1 cylinder [1].
- Ensure crankshaft sprocket keyway at 9 o’clock position [2].
- Ensure timing mark on each camshaft sprocket aligned at 12 o’clock position [3].
- Lock timing chain tensioners in retracted position before carrying out engine repairs [4] :
- Push plunger into tensioner housing [5].
- Insert 2,5 mm pin to lock tensioner plunger [6].
- Align coloured chain links with timing mark on each sprocket [2], [3], [7] & [8].
- Remove timing chain tensioner locking pins after repairs [6].
- Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to 226-245 Nm [9].
- Tighten camshaft sprocket bolts to 69-74 Nm [10].
