Special Tools
- None required.
Special Precautions
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- DO NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft when timing belt removed.
- Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
- Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
- DO NOT turn engine via camshaft or other sprockets.
- Observe all tightening torques.
Removal
- Remove:
о Auxiliary drive belts. о Water pump pulley. о PAS pump pulley (if fitted). о Dipstick and tube (if necessary).
- Raise and support front of vehicle.
- Remove:
о RH front wheel. о AC compressor pulley (if fitted). о Crankshaft pulley bolt [1] . о Crankshaft pulley [2] . о Timing belt cover [3] . о Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor reluctor.
- Turn crankshaft clockwise to TDC on No.1 cylinder.
- Ensure timing marks aligned [4] & [5] .
- Slacken tensioner bolt [6] .
- Push tensioner away from belt. Lightly tighten bolt.
- Remove timing belt.
NOTE: Mark direction of rotation on belt with chalk if belt is to be reused.
Installation
NOTE: Observe direction of rotation marks on belt.
- Check tensioner pulley for smooth operation.
- Ensure timing marks aligned [4] & [5] .
- Fit timing belt in anti-clockwise direction, starting at crankshaft sprocket. Ensure belt is taut on non-tensioned side.
- Slacken tensioner bolt [6] . Allow tensioner to operate.
- Turn crankshaft clockwise for 2 teeth on camshaft sprocket.
- Push tensioner pulley against belt.
- Tighten tensioner bolt [6] . Tightening torque: 22-30 Nm.
- Turn crankshaft four turns clockwise.
- Ensure timing marks aligned [4] & [5] .
- Check belt tension as follows:
- Apply thumb pressure to belt at ▼ and push belt away from tensioner.
- Check measurement between back of belt and centre of timing belt cover bolt hole is approximately 20 mm [7] .
- Install components in reverse order of removal.
- Fit new crankshaft pulley bolt and washer [1] .
WARNING: DO NOT reuse black crankshaft pulley bolt (A).
- Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt [1] . Tightening torque:
- (B) Grey bolt with washer: 103 Nm.
- (C) Black bolt with washer: 147 Nm.
NOTE: Only use crankshaft pulley bolt (C) if modified crankshaft fitted. Hope the information will be usefull!
