How to replace timing chain on Vauxhall/Opel Agila B 1.2 Twinsport

Special tools

  • Crankshaft pulley holding tool (K10B) – No.KM-6347.
  • Crankshaft pulley holding tool handle (K10B) – No.KM-956-1.
  • Crankshaft pulley holding tool (K12B) – No.KM-6047.
  • Crankshaft pulley puller (K10B) – No.KM-161-B.
  • Crankshaft pulley puller (K12B) – No.KM-210-3.
  • Crankshaft pulley puller adapter (K10B/K12B) – No.EN-49150.

General precautions

  • Disconnect battery earth lead.
  • Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
  • Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
  • Observe tightening torques.
  • If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
  • Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
  • Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.

  • Removal/installation of timing chain requires:
      • Sump removal.
  • Ensure crankshaft keyway aligned with cylinder block notch [1] .
  • Ensure camshaft sprocket timing marks aligned [2] .
  • Remove timing chain tensioner [3] .
  • Remove tensioner rail and chain guide.
  • Remove timing chain and crankshaft sprocket as an assembly.
  • Align coloured chain links with timing mark on each camshaft sprocket [4] .
  • Align coloured chain link with timing mark on crankshaft sprocket [5] .
  • Install new chain guide [6] . Tightening torque: 11 Nm.
  • Install new tensioner rail [7] . Tightening torque: 25 Nm.
  • Ensure coloured chain links aligned with timing mark on each sprocket [4] & [5] .
  • Install new tensioner assembly [3] . Tightening torque: 11 Nm.
  • Turn crankshaft 2 turns clockwise to TDC on No.1 cylinder.
  • Ensure crankshaft keyway aligned with cylinder block notch [1] .
  • Ensure timing marks on camshaft sprockets aligned [2] .
