How to Replace timing chain on Honda Jazz 1.4 GD/GG/GE

Special tools

  • Crankshaft pulley bolt socket – Honda No.07JAA-001020A.
  • Crankshaft pulley holding tool – Honda No.070AB-RJA0100.
  • Crankshaft pulley holding tool handle – Honda No.07JAB-001020B.

General precautions

  • Disconnect battery earth lead.
  • Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
  • Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
  • Observe tightening torques.
  • If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
  • Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
  • Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.

  • Removal/installation of timing chain requires:
      • Sump removal.
  • Engine at TDC on No.1 cylinder.
  • Ensure timing marks aligned [1] , [2] & [3] .
  • Align coloured chain link with timing mark on crankshaft sprocket [4] .
  • Align coloured chain links with timing mark on camshaft sprocket [5] .
  • Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt [6] . Tightening torque: 37 Nm + 90°.

NOTE: If crankshaft or crankshaft pulley bolt replaced: Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to 177 Nm then fully slacken.
