- None required.
Special precautions
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- DO NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft when timing belt removed.
- Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
- Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
- DO NOT turn engine via camshaft or other sprockets.
- Observe all tightening torques.

Valve timing procedures
Removal
NOTE: Normal direction of crankshaft rotation is anti-clockwise.
- Remove:
- Undershield.
- Auxiliary drive belts.
- PAS pump. DO NOT disconnect hoses.
- Support engine.
- Remove:
- LH engine mounting.
- Cylinder head cover.
- Timing belt centre cover [1].
- Turn crankshaft to TDC on No.1 cylinder. Ensure timing marks aligned [2].
- Ensure ‘UP’ mark on camshaft sprockets at top [3].
- Remove:
- Crankshaft pulley bolt [9].
- Crankshaft pulley [4].
- Timing belt lower cover [5].
- Slacken tensioner bolt [6]. Move tensioner away from belt and tighten bolt.
- Remove timing belt.
Installation
- Ensure timing marks aligned [7] & [8].
- Ensure ‘UP’ mark on camshaft sprockets at top [3].
- Fit timing belt in following order:
- Crankshaft sprocket.
- Tensioner pulley.
- Water pump sprocket.
- Exhaust camshaft sprocket.
- Inlet camshaft sprocket.
- Slacken and tighten tensioner bolt [6].
- Turn crankshaft six turns anti-clockwise. Ensure crankshaft sprocket timing marks aligned [7].
- Slacken tensioner bolt [6].
- Turn crankshaft anti-clockwise for 3 teeth on camshaft sprocket.
- Tighten tensioner bolt to 54 Nm [6].
- Turn crankshaft two turns anti-clockwise. Ensure timing marks aligned [7] & [8].
- Install components in reverse order of removal.
- Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt [9]. Tightening torque: 177 Nm.
