Special tools
- Camshaft alignment tool – Ford No.303-735.
- Crankshaft alignment tool – Ford No.303-732.
- Crankshaft locking tool – Ford No.303-734.
General precautions
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- Remove glow plugs to ease turning engine.
- Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
- Observe tightening torques.
- If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.
Valve timing procedures
- Removal/installation of timing chain requires:
- Timing belt removal.
- Camshaft housing removal [1] .
NOTE: Refer to Autodata Technical Data for tightening torques.
NOTE: Refer to Technical Data module for tightening torques.
- Align camshaft sprocket [2] . Use tool No.303-732.
- Align coloured chain links with timing mark on each sprocket [3] .
- Timing chain tensioner must be installed before camshafts are installed [4] .
NOTE: Crankshaft pulley centre bolt MUST only be used once [5] .
