Replacement Interval Guide
- Peugeot recommend:
- →2007:
- Replacement every 80,000 miles or 10 years under normal conditions.
- Replacement every 48,000 miles or 5 years under adverse conditions.
- 2008→:
- Replacement every 80,000 miles or 10 years under normal conditions.
- Replacement every 50,000 miles or 10 years under adverse conditions.
- The previous use and service history of the vehicle must always be taken into account.
Check For Engine Damage
CAUTION: This engine has been identified as an INTERFERENCE engine in which the possibility of valve-to-piston damage in the event of a timing belt failure is MOST LIKELY to occur. A compression check of all cylinders should be performed before removing the cylinder head.

Special Tools
- Flywheel timing pin – Peugeot No.(-).0132QZ.
- Camshaft timing pin – Peugeot No.(-).0132RZ.
- Valve spring compressor – Peugeot No.(-).0132AE.
- Tension gauge – SEEM C.Tronic 105.5.
Special Precautions
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- DO NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft when timing belt removed.
- Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
- Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
- DO NOT turn engine via camshaft or other sprockets.
- Observe all tightening torques.
Removal
- Remove:
- Engine steady bar.
- Auxiliary drive belt.
- Engine control module (ECM). DO NOT disconnect cable.
- Engine control module (ECM) bracket.
- Crankshaft pulley bolts [1] .
- Crankshaft pulley [2] .
- Timing belt covers [3] & [4] .
- Turn crankshaft clockwise to setting position.
- Insert timing pin in camshaft sprocket [5] . Tool No.(-).0132RZ.
- Insert flywheel timing pin [6] . Tool No.(-).0132QZ.
- Slacken tensioner nut to release tension on belt [7] .
- Move tensioner away from belt. Lightly tighten nut [7] .
- Remove timing belt.
Installation
- Ensure timing pins located correctly [5] & [6] .
- Fit timing belt in following order:
- Crankshaft sprocket.
- Camshaft sprocket.
- Water pump sprocket.
- Tensioner pulley.
NOTE: Ensure belt is taut between sprockets on non-tensioned side.
- Attach tension gauge to belt at . Tool No.SEEM C.Tronic 105.5 [8] .
- Slacken tensioner nut [7] .
- Turn tensioner anti-clockwise until tension gauge indicates 44 SEEM units.
- Tighten tensioner nut to 22 Nm [7] .
- Remove:
- Timing pins [5] & [6] .
- Tension gauge [8] .
- Turn crankshaft four turns clockwise to setting position.
- Insert timing pin in flywheel [6] .NOTE: DO NOT allow crankshaft to turn anti-clockwise.
- Ensure timing pin can be inserted easily in camshaft sprocket [5] .
- Remove:
- Timing pin [5] .
- Cylinder head cover.
- Install valve spring compressor. Tool No.0132AE [9] .NOTE: Tighten bolts of tool sufficiently to free the cam followers from camshaft. Excessive tightening will cause damage to valves or pistons.
- Attach tension gauge to belt at [8] .
- Hold tensioner pulley in position. Slacken tensioner nut [7] .
- Release tension on belt. Turn tensioner clockwise until tension gauge indicates 29-33 SEEM units.
- Tighten tensioner nut to 22 Nm [7] .
- Remove:
- Valve spring compressor [9] .
- Tension gauge [8] .
- Timing pin [6] .
- Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise.
- Ensure timing pins can be inserted [5] & [6] .
- Install components in reverse order of removal.
