Special precautions
- Disconnect battery earth lead.
- Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
- Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
- Observe tightening torques.
- If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
- Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.
Removal
- Turn crankshaft clockwise until tooth gap on crankshaft pulley positioned as shown [1] . Install crankshaft pulley alignment tool [2] .
- Install camshaft alignment tool [3] .
- If necessary, turn camshafts slightly in clockwise direction using spanner on hexagon, until camshaft alignment tool can be fitted.
- Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor to crankshaft pulley before removal [4] . Remove crankshaft position (CKP) sensor [5] .
- Install flywheel locking tool [6] . Remove crankshaft pulley. Remove timing chain cover.
- Lock timing chain tensioner in retracted position [7] :
- Compress tensioner plunger [8] .
- Insert a suitable pin into tensioner body to lock tensioner plunger in position [9] .
- Remove timing chain tensioner [7] .
- Remove tensioner rail and chain guide [10] & [11] .
- Slacken bolt of each camshaft sprocket [12] .
NOTE: Hold camshafts with spanner on hexagon.
- Remove timing chain.
Installation
