  • Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
  • Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.

Removal

  • Turn crankshaft clockwise until tooth gap on crankshaft pulley positioned as shown [1] . Install crankshaft pulley alignment tool [2] .
  • Install camshaft alignment tool [3] .
  • If necessary, turn camshafts slightly in clockwise direction using spanner on hexagon, until camshaft alignment tool can be fitted.
  • Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor to crankshaft pulley before removal [4] . Remove crankshaft position (CKP) sensor [5] .
  • Install flywheel locking tool [6] . Remove crankshaft pulley. Remove timing chain cover.
  • Lock timing chain tensioner in retracted position [7] :
    • Compress tensioner plunger [8] .
    •  Insert a suitable pin into tensioner body to lock tensioner plunger in position [9] .
  • Remove timing chain tensioner [7] .
  • Remove tensioner rail and chain guide [10] & [11] .
  • Slacken bolt of each camshaft sprocket [12] .

NOTE: Hold camshafts with spanner on hexagon.

  • Remove timing chain.

Installation

NOTE: If camshaft sprocket removed ensure new friction washers are fitted behind sprocket.

  • Install timing chain.
  • Install tensioner rail and chain guide [10] & [11] .
  • Install timing chain tensioner [7] .
  • Remove pin to release timing chain tensioner plunger [9] .
  • Tighten bolt of each camshaft sprocket [12] . Tightening torque: 72 Nm.

NOTE: Hold camshafts with spanner on hexagon.

  • Install timing chain cover. Install crankshaft pulley.
  • Align crankshaft position (CKP) sensor as follows:
    • Install crankshaft position (CKP) sensor [5] .
    • Install crankshaft position (CKP) sensor alignment tool [13] .
    • Adjust position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor until marked tooth is positioned as shown [14] .
    • Tighten crankshaft position (CKP) sensor bolts. Tightening torque: 7 Nm.
