How to Replace timing chain on Hyundai Accent 1.5D CRDi 2008

Special tools

  • Flywheel locking tool (starter motor aperture) – No.09231-2A100/2A110.
  • Sump separator – No.09215-3C000.

Special precautions

  • Disconnect battery earth lead.
  • Remove glow plugs to ease turning engine.
  • Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
  • Observe tightening torques.
  • If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
  • Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
  • Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.

Valve timing procedures

  • Removal/installation of timing chain requires:
    • Sump removal.
  • Ensure engine at TDC on No.1 cylinder [1].
  • Ensure crankshaft sprocket keyway at 9 o’clock position [2].
  • Ensure timing mark on each camshaft sprocket aligned at 12 o’clock position [3].
  • Lock timing chain tensioners in retracted position before carrying out engine repairs [4] :
    • Push plunger into tensioner housing [5].
    • Insert 2,5 mm pin to lock tensioner plunger [6].
  • Align coloured chain links with timing mark on each sprocket [2], [3], [7] & [8].
  • Remove timing chain tensioner locking pins after repairs [6].
  • Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to 226-245 Nm [9].
  • Tighten camshaft sprocket bolts to 69-74 Nm [10].
